Ideas For Get Well Present for a 9 year old boy?

.My son, who's 9, is undergoing surgery on his ear in about a week. I'm looking for ideas to keep him entertained during his week of recovery at home. Please keep in mind that he won't be able to hear very well or move around a lot. The most creative ideas will win the 10 points! Thanks!!

Details:

  1. i'd say legos :3 Get a tv table try and he'll be able to build them on there.
  2. Anything that sparks imagination (not TV!). Legos for sure... always a favorite among my boys. I found some great deals on ebay. How about making your own play-do, giving him a box of cookie cutters and such, and letting him enjoy? Sometimes old childhood favorites are the best. http://handsonhome.blogspot.com/2011/03/play-dough.html Or making a pinata that he can enjoy at the end of the week... very fun but takes time between drying times. Or making special snacks/breads. How about big soft homemade pretzels? He can shape them into whatever he wants. Making bird feeders with pine cones, peanut butter and birdseed. Making cards for grandparents, etc?
  3. Books- maybe one of those Choose Your Own Adventure books- I loved those at that age. Maybe a sketchpad with some tips, and some colored pencils? Puzzles. Etch a Sketch Ball and Jacks Hot Wheels/Tonka/Matchbox Cars- perhaps one of those new RC Hotwheels cars? Magazines- Boys Life, National Geographic Kids, Highlights, Ranger Rick Mega/Lego Blocks I see absolutely NOTHING wrong with some television, game or computer time during his week of recovery. You can borrow DVDs from the library, if you do not want to buy new movies. Websites such as PBSKids.org, Nickelodeon, Disney, etc. have pages and games for children (as well as printable activities). You could also check out zoo websites- most have activities for children and a lot also have live webcams on the animals. Google Earth is a cool free download. Board games- Gassy Gus, Clue, Scrabble, Who Wants To Be a Millionaire, Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader, etc. are faves in our house. I hope he recovers quickly! I have tried to think of things that would keep my 10 year old son entertained.
  4. i would get him a Nintendo DS with a fun game. You can buy them used if it is too costly for you.
